Monday at ABNL
The heavy rain that was predicted for today held off! Yahoo! We were able to do observations and enjoy all that Bengel Wildlife Center has to offer while we stayed dry. Our guest speaker today was Mark Stephens, from MSU's Project FISH. His lesson focused on fish adaptations and students learned kinds of adaptations that help fish to survive. Our observation time today was to the Mixed Forest. We headed out to the area near Priggooris Lake where Juan and Cassie made the discovery of a lifetime! Dead turtles. . . .everywhere! The turtles are called cooters. We have some theories about what caused their death and some experts to contact for more information. Mr. Stephens thought it could be from temperature change or pesticides. The really cool thing is that students could also see carrion beetles that were feasting on the decomposing turtles! Here's hoping tomorrow is just as spectacular and the weather cooperates. Let me know if you can help this week.
