What a surprise to have two snow days in mid-March! As a result of the snow day on Thursday, Parent Teacher Conferences are rescheduled for this Thursday, March 20.
We are busy in Room 210 writing and illustrating our books for Young Authors Day. If you have not sent back the payment envelope for the state report book, please do so this week. Even if you don't want to buy an additional copy, we need the form with your signature indicating that you only want the FREE book. Later this week I'll send home another payment envelope for the class cookbook. If you would like a copy of the cookbook, the cost is $19.95. The FREE cookbook will stay in our classroom library. There's still time to send in your recipe, too.
This week during the reading block, students are "digging deeper" with an informational text called The Boston Tea Party. During this close reading, students are asking themselves, "What is the author trying to teach me?" They will use all of the text features of informational text to make deeper meaning and improve comprehension. The spelling words this weeks are plurals and come from the story, A Room of My Own. (Unit 4, Week 5). In grammar, students will learn about the variety of contractions that are made using the word not. (can't, didn't, won't, isn't, etc.)
In math, we are finishing up Chapter 7 on Division Strategies and will have the chapter assessment on Thursday. In science, we are finishing up the chapter on Rocks, Minerals, and Soil. The chapter assessment will be on Tuesday. The end of the third marking period is March 28.
Keep reading at home during March Is Reading Month. The Visiting Author will be here on Thursday. Order forms to purchase books was sent home last week. If you would like to purchase one of their books, please send the form back to school by Thursday.
