Thursday at ABNL

Thursday at ABNL on PhotoPeach

Thursday was another bright and sunny day. What a great time to be outside for water testing and observation. We began our day with observation at the pond. There is a Canada goose sitting on a nest and it's been fun to watch her movements. With the sunshine, we saw turtles sunning themselves and heard plenty of chirping birds. Our Expert Speakers today were Mrs. Pearson and Mr. Beuttell. They taught the students how to test for the healthiness of a body of water. We went down to Priggooris Lake and tested the water for nitrates, pH level, turbidity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen. We then compared our results with the results from Ms. Hartlund's class and talked about reasons why we might see differences. In the afternoon, we had work stations that involved wetlands and watersheds. Students learned how their actions can make a big difference on the healthiness of the local watershed. Thanks to Mr. Clarke and Mrs. Ingram for their help today. We ended our day by harvesting dandelions. We will use those flower heads tomorrow in a cooking project! Should be tasty!
