Halloween Happenings!

Halloween has come and gone and we are now setting our sights on Annie's BIG Nature Lesson. (Nov. 3-7) Many 4th grade students are experts on Annie's and know the routines and expectations. As a refresher, here are a few reminders. Dress for the weather each day. Rain, snow, or sunshine, the students go out to the different habitats each day to observe and journal for an hour. Students will also need to bring a sack lunch each day or pick up a sack lunch in the cafeteria in the morning. There will be no swimming lessons this week, no homework on Monday and Wednesday night, and no spelling test on Thursday. : ) Our normal classroom assignments and routines will resume on Monday, November 10.

A special thank you goes to Mrs. Gutzki and Mrs. Hosford for organizing, planning, and making numerous phone calls to plan for the Halloween party. The students had great food (the Health Team would be pleased!) and fun activities as they did some estimating and a mummy wrap. Thank you to parents who donated food, supplies, and helped make the party fun for the students.

VOTING WEBQUEST
In preparation for this historical moment in our country, your child learned about voting last week and the duties and responsibilities of citizenship. They learned about various aspects of voting by doing an Internet scavenger hunt, learned some important voting vocabulary words which they wrote on a "graffiti wall", and learned about the electoral college. They registered to vote in the all school election (sponsored by Mr. Balzer's room) and applied for an absentee ballot since we will be away from our polling place on Tuesday. In order to make an informed decision, we learned about the candidates and their position on education, health care, and the war. On Friday, students voted with their absentee ballot in the private voting booth! It was a fantastic week of learning with real life application!

Looking forward to seeing many of you at Annie's and I am hopeful for a week of beautiful fall weather.
