Students will have an assessment of their learning on Chapter 1 of their Social Studies text on Friday, September 26. Chapter 1 consists of pages 46-75. The assessment will be have 10 multiple choice questions, 6 matching of vocabulary words, 5 map skill questions, 2 short answer questions, and 1 essay question. They will receive a paper version of this study guide on Wednesday when we complete Lesson 5.
Students should have an understanding of the following items:
Vocabulary words (highlighted in yellow in each lesson)
Know the four main landforms and where they are located
Mountains, plateaus, hills, and plains
Know how rivers build up the land and tear it down
Know what causes seasons
Know how an ocean can affect climate
Know the difference between service jobs and manufacturing jobs and examples of each
Know how farmers can conserve soil
Know how people can conserve mineral resources
Know kinds of natural resources in the US:
Fresh water, fuels, minerals, fertile soil, forests
Be able to place the following landforms on a map: Appalachian Mountains, Coastal Plain, Great Basin, Interior Plains, Rocky Mountains
Write about the difference between weather and climate
