Week of October 12-16

In the reading block this week, we will continue to read informational text and look for the main idea and supporting details in the selection Penguin Chick.  This is a narrative nonfiction full of delightful illustrations and fun facts.  The spelling words follow the long o sound and we will learn about predicates in grammar. The spelling test and Weekly Assessment for Penguin Chick will be on Friday.

Students will have a math test on Chapter 1 of GOMath on Monday.  The skills of estimating, rounding, and addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers will be assessed.  There will also be a science test on Wednesday.  This assessment is over Chapter 1 Plants and How They Grow.  Students should know the meaning of the vocabulary words and use their Summary Sheet of the chapter as a study guide.  Please set aside time to help your child prepare for the test.  Our class goal is for everyone to score 80% or higher.  Students feel super successful when they reach their goals!

The Halloween Party and Parade will be on Friday, October 30.  There will be a Party Planning Meeting for parents that are interested in planning the classroom parties (Halloween, Christmas, and Valentines Day) on October 14 right after school in the classroom. In keeping with school policy, all parents will need to have an iChat done before they can come to the Halloween Party.  If you haven't done an iChat yet, this would be a good week to get it done.  That way you can be certain you'll be clear by the end of the month! If you can't make it, but still want to help plan the parties, just let me know.
