This week we are taking a break from the basal and focusing on close reading and poetry. There are no spelling words this week as we focus on revising sentences and expanding them with details. In math, we are continuing learning about strategies to solve unknown multiplication facts and working on performance tasks. With performance tasks, students are working to solve multi-step problems and explaining their thinking in a written response. We will continue to practice performance tasks throughout the year. An excellent stocking stuffer this year could be a pack of multiplication flash cards! Students should fluently recall multiplication facts by the time they leave third grade.
There are many holiday activities planned for this week. Mr. Vetter's 2nd and 3rd Grade Musical, The Big Chill, is Wednesday, December 17 beginning at 2:45 PM in the Middle School. The class party is Thursday, December 18 beginning at 2:00 PM. Please send in a mug filled with treats by Tuesday. Thank you to those that have volunteered to send in cookies or donuts. Students can wear their PJs as they drink hot cocoa and have a bit more relaxed time with their classmates.
COMMUNITY EVENTS
The Bath Farmers Market is holding their annual Holiday Market on Thursday, December 18 from 3-6 PM at the Community Center on Park Lake Road. Santa and Mrs. Clause will be there and kids will have an opportunity to decorate cookies. It's a good time to pick up fresh, locally grown produce for holiday meals and support local farmers. Hope to see you there!
Please consider using the Bath Library Center if you don't have Internet access at home or to use for homework help. The wireless signal is strong enough that someone with a tablet or laptop can sit outside in a car, even when they're closed, and use the Internet! There are also a couple of rooms that can be used by kids working on group projects--nice, well-lit, big tables, etc. You can also find information on the township's website at Library Center.
