Week of December 1-5

Hopefully, everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving and are ready for the hustle and bustle of the Holiday Season.  In keeping with the holidays, the 2nd and 3rd grade students are presenting a musical called The Big Chill.  The performance will be held on Wednesday, December 17 at 2:45 PM in the Middle School Auditorium.  Mr. Vetter would like students to wear a festive Christmas themed outfit to add to the atmosphere and theme of the musical.

Also in the holiday spirit, students will have an opportunity to shop at the PTA's "Stop and Shop."  Here, students have an opportunity to buy gifts for siblings, parents, grandparents, etc.  Room 210 will shop on Tuesday, December 2 at 10:00.  If you want your child to have the opportunity to shop, please send in money and a list of who they are buying for on Tuesday.

This week in Room 210, we will be reading the selection, The Planets in Our Solar System, written by Franklyn M. Branley. (Unit 2, Week 4) The strategy will be to generate questions and the skill is summarizing. Students will ask and answer questions about this informational text and look back at the text often to find the answers. A summary is a short statement of the most important ideas in a paragraph, passage, or selection. It includes the main ideas and the most important details. (CCSS3.RI.1-2)

The spelling words are Consonant Blends-- three letter blends such as thr, spr, scr, and str. In grammar, students will learn about singular and plural possessive nouns. They will have a Weekly Reading Assessment on Friday that will assess all the skills learned and practiced during the week.

On Thursday we will have a science test on Chapter 9 Natural Resources. We will play a Jeopardy review game on Wednesday.  Students will have the following materials as study guides -- 4 Square Vocabulary Sort (words also on the blog), a Chapter Summary, short answer questions/answers, and 3 Types of Natural Resources foldable.  Please set aside time to help them study and prepare for the chapter assessment.  Our class goal is for students to achieve 80% or higher.

We are finishing Chapter 3 in GOMath and will have a chapter assessment on Wednesday.  Students are learning a variety of strategies to find the product in a multiplication equation.
