Week of September 29-October 3

This week we will continue to identify the main idea and details in the reading selection, Penguin Chick.  (Unit 1, Week 4) This is a narrative nonfiction full of delightful illustrations and fun facts.  The spelling words follow the long o sound and we will learn about predicates in grammar.

In GOMath, we are carefully making our way through Chapter 1.  We should hit the Mid-Point Checkpoint on Wednesday and have our first chapter assessment next week.  It is quite important for students to have math fluency with addition and subtraction facts.  Many students have not mastered these facts yet.  Working with your child at home can give a tremendous boost to confidence.  As you're driving, ask your child some quick facts.  The repetition and practicing the skill is sure to help as they progress in Third Grade.  We'll soon be working on multiplication and knowing the addition facts will give them a distinct advantage.

PRIDE winners for September are as follows:
P -- Aubrie Schaibly
R -- Sam Wonch
I -- Kevin Coffman
D -- Taya Nordmann
E -- Anthony Wasson

The "Walk To" Interventions begin on Monday.  All students in third grade will go to another classroom for remediation, practice, or enrichment. Student placement was based on beginning of the year assessments including DIBELS, Star Math, Running Records, and Prerequisite Tests. These groups are fluid and students will move in and out based on need. Please let me know if you have questions.
