Week of January 13-17, 2014

I hope you all enjoyed your break and had time to relax and enjoy time as a family.  I certainly enjoyed my time off, (especially once the electricity was back), and I was excited to get back to school and see friendly faces!

This week in language arts, we are reading an informational text called Saving the Sand Dunes. (Unit 3, Week 3)  Students will examine the cause and effect text feature.  Spelling words this week have the r-controlled vowel and the /ur/ sound.  In grammar, they will learn about past tense verbs.  In writing, we will think about our dreams for the world, just as Martin Luther King, Jr. had his “dream” back in 1963. DIBELS screening will be on Thursday.

In math, we will finish up Chapter 4 on Multiplication Strategies and have the Chapter Test on Wednesday.  Since we are nearing the end of the second marking period, we will also have the Mid-Year Assessment in GOMath next week.  In science, we will begin a unit on Animal Adaptations.

Important dates to remember and mark on your calendar:
January 20 NO SCHOOL MLK Day -- PD for Teachers
January 23, 24 Half Days -- School dismissed at 12:05 PM
January 24-- End of the 2nd Marking Period and First Semester
