This week students will read the narrative nonfiction called
Beatrice’s Goat. This is a true story of a girl, living in
Uganda, who wanted to go to school, but her family didn’t have enough money to
send her. Through her hard work and
determination, she was able to raise enough money selling goat’s milk to pay
for herself and her siblings to attend the local school. The reading skill is cause and effect. A cause is an action that makes something
happen. An effect is something that
happens because of an action. The
spelling words (unit 5, Week 2) have suffixes at the end of the base word. Students will need to recall the suffix rules
to know if they should drop the e, double the consonant, or just add the
suffix. In grammar, students will learn
about subject and object pronouns. In
writing, we will finish the compare/contrast writing that we started last
week.
In math, we started a unit on fractions. Students are beginning to realize that the
smaller the denominator, the bigger the piece! We will continue with fractions
after Spring Break.
In science, we are learning about sound and light. The light posters that students have been
working on should be displayed in the hallway this week!
