December. . . already?
It seems like school just started! In keeping with the holiday season, students
painted gingerbread houses on grocery bags and then wrote an informational
piece about the history of gingerbread.
They used a new tool, called Expanding Expression Tool (eetchy), that
helps students organize their writing, helping them to include important
details. Students did some research in
the lab and then wrote some amazing mini-research pieces. If you’re in the hallway, be sure to stop and
read a few. For those that can’t get
into the school, the art is here for you to enjoy.
This week the reading selection is called, Author: A True Story. Students will read an autobiography written and illustrated by Helen Lester, author of the Tacky, the Penguin books. The skill is identifying the author's purpose and the strategy is to summarize. In spelling, students will have words with the following consonant pairs--gn, kn and wr.
We are continuing with multiplication in math and rocks, minerals, and soil in science. The science test will be Friday, December 7. Students have a Summary Sheet from chapter 7 in the science textbook, vocabulary words (also here on the blog as a Prezi), and foldables on rocks and minerals. All of these tools will help them prepare for the test on Friday.
