Welcome back
after the long weekend. I hope all of
you enjoyed your Thanksgiving and had a chance to spend time with family and
friends.
This week in
Room 210, we will be reading the selection, The
Planets in Our Solar System, written by Franklyn M. Branley. (Unit 2, Week 4) The strategy will be to generate questions
and the skill is summarizing. Students
will ask and answer questions about this informational text and look back at
the text often to find the answers. A
summary is a short statement of the most important ideas in a paragraph,
passage, or selection. It includes the
main ideas and the most important details.
(CCSS 3.RI.1-2)
The spelling
words are Consonant Blends-- three letter blends such as thr, spr, scr, and str. In
grammar, students will learn about singular and plural possessive nouns. They will have a Weekly Reading Assessment on
Friday that will assess all the skills learned and practiced during the week.
We are
continuing our math work with multiplication and will have the Chapter 3
assessment on Wednesday, November 28. We are wrapping up or exploration of rocks
and minerals and will move on to soil.
Students have really enjoyed this chapter and it’s great to have so many
specimens come in for us to look at!
Later this week will examine soil (composted horse manure) and see what
kinds of critters lurk in and around dirt!
