January 30 - February 3
Monday marks the first day of the third marking! Your third grader is half way through the year and closer and closer to 4th grade. We are diligently working on academic skills that will be needed next year. Most are problem solving skills for solving math word problems and reading comprehension strategies to help understand the text. We are also focusing on goal setting (both behavior and academic), producing quality work and making sure to write our name on our work. The workload and demands may get a little more intense in the next few weeks. Thank you in advance for helping at home to practice multiplication facts, read, and to study for tests.
On Monday, we will begin the reading selection, What Do Illustrators Do? The comprehension strategy is noting the sequence of events and spelling words have the /oi/ sound. As always, the words will come home on Monday in your child’s folder and can also be found on SpellingCity.com.
We will finish Chapter 1 in science this week and have a test on Friday. The vocabulary words are here on the blog, and can be found in the science textbook. Your child also has a Summery Sheet for the chapter that is an excellent study guide and easy to carry back and forth from school to home. The plants in the AeroGarden are growing and peeking out from the soil. They have germinated and are so close to the seedling stage!
There are many activities at the Elementary School in the next few months. Be sure to check the Bath Elementary page on the website and mark your calendars. Some upcoming events to highlight are “Dodgeball for Heart” on Thursday right after school and the PTA Chili Cook-off on the same night. Report cards will be sent home on Friday. The following week, beginning February 8, is the 3rd Grade Post Office. More details about that as the date gets closer.
