Exciting things are happening in Room 210. For many students, their fluency is improving in reading, students are enjoying our introduction to multiplication as we explore equal groups, and behaviors are improving as we move close to the mid-year mark of third grade. Some skills and concepts are becoming challenging. For many students, a little bit more practice at home is all that is needed to master a skill and increase their confidence. Please remember to ask your child if they have math homework or practice reading with them in the evening. Oral reading has been proven to help with all kinds of brain connections and it’s not too early to ward off Alzheimer’s!
In reading this week, we are reading a selection called Stone Soup and will practice the comprehension strategy of inferring. (Unit 3, Week 1) The words from this reading can be found at SpellingCity.com. Your child will do a pretest on Monday and will bring these words home in their Bath Bee Folder.
Popcorn Day is Tuesday, December 6. Bags are 25 cents. The PTA Stop ‘n Shop is also Tuesday. Our class will shop at 11:00 AM. Please send money if you would like your child to buy some special gifts for brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.
The PTA Winter Workshop is Wednesday, December 7 from 6-7:30 PM.
Our classroom holiday party will be Thursday, December 15 beginning at 2:30 PM. Please have your child bring a mug filled with small treats as a gift exchange. We will be drinking hot cocoa, frosting cookies, and eating donuts during the party. Students can also wear a robe or slippers and bring a pillow while we watch a holiday movie.
Winter Break is from December 19 to January 2. School resumes on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
Please remember to send your child dressed for the weather. When the snow returns, they will need boots and snow pants to be able to play freely on the playground. Students without boots and snow pants are limited to the pavement. Have a wonderful week as you prepare for the holidays!
