Friday marked the end of the first marking period of third grade. Report cards will go home on Friday, November 11. We spent the majority of the first month of school creating classroom community and settling into routines and learning expectations. Look for the second marking period to include continuing reading comprehension strategies and improving fluency. In math, we are working on data collection, bar graphs, and plot lines. In science, we are finishing up our unit on Natural Resources by writing, creating, and producing a movie called “Natural Resources Mash-Up”. This group project will include a paper slideshow, animation, video, and student narration. We hope to have a final product to post on the Web in about 10 days! The class will be divided into three teams. Each team will produce a video that demonstrates their learning about this important topic.
The spelling words this week come from What’s In Store For the Future? (Unit 2, Week 3), an informational reading selection from TIME For Kids. The spelling pattern follows the –th, sh, and wh letters. Look for fun ways to practice at home at SpellingCity.com.
Popcorn Day is Tuesday, November 8. Look for our classroom calendar on the Bath Elementary webpage under Class Pages. The calendar on our class pages tells you the Special for each day and other important information.
