Week of February 8-12

It's Valentine's Week and the Third Grade Post Office!  Our post office duties are on Thursday.  On this day, we are responsible for delivering mail and packages to the students at Bath Elementary.  The hours to buy stamps are from 9-10:30.  Between our duties of selling, sorting, cancelling, and delivering, we will make our art project for the auction at the Art and Literacy Night (March 1 5:30-7:00).  Friday is our Valentine Day Party and a half day of school.  The party will begin at 11:00 and have a dessert theme this year. Students can bring in their valentines for classmates on Friday morning.  They will decorate a bag and deliver their valentines in the morning. School is dismissed on Friday at 12:05 PM.  There is no school on Monday, February 15 to celebrate President's Day.

The spelling words this week are words from Cook-A-Doodle-Do (Unit 4, Week 1)They follow the /Ô/ sound in words with the letters aw and  au.  Our grammar lessons will be on the present-tense forms of the verbs be, do, and have. In writing, students are researching an important historical person, taking notes, and writing an informational text for Young Author's Day.  (May 3)  These books will be published professionally and make a fantastic keepsake of third grade writing.  More info will be coming home soon on how to get a FREE book or order additional copies for gift giving.  They make great Mother's Day gifts!

Don't forget to sign up for Mileage Club.  It only takes a few minutes and it's easy! The first class to enroll the entire class gets a fruit tray and an extra gym day from Mr. Saylor.
