Week of October 19-23

Parent Teacher Conferences are this week on Wednesday night, Thursday afternoon and evening. There is no school on Friday, October 23.  The Book Fair is also this week and students will be able to shop for books on their Library day (Tuesday).  Students do not return books this week.  Mr. Slocum is still in need of parent volunteers.  If you are available and want to give him a hand, please let him know by phone or email. The Book Fair will also be open in the evening during conferences. The October Make It, Take It will be held in Room 220.  This is a great place to pick up reading and math interventions to use with your child at home.  Wednesday hours are 5:30-6:00 and Thursday from 1:30-2:00 and 5:30-6:00. If you signed up for a conference time through volunteerspot, you will receive an email reminder.  If you signed up the traditional way, a confirmation slip was sent home with your child on Friday.  Conference times are only 15 minutes.  I will be able to give you an overview of how your student is doing so far in Third Grade.  If you need more time to discuss concerns I am available before or after school and we can set up an additional meeting.

We are stepping away from the Treasures reading series and will not have spelling words this week. In the reading block we will be digging into informational text using a new publication called Michigan Community Studies Weekly.  This informational newspaper addresses our Social Studies Grade Level Content Expectations.  Students have a username and password to access the publication on-line and can also do reading and work from home. The Third Grade Team is excited to have this new resource to teach Michigan History.
