"Flip It" Reading Strategy

For the past few days students have been learning a reading strategy called "flip it".  This fun technique teaches students how to sharpen their ability to ask and anticipate great questions as they read.  Instead of asking students to make up questions about large chunks of text, they try flipping sentences into questions first.  Below is a sample of this strategy.  Students took one "flipped" statement and made a Google slide out of it.  They used sentences from our Michigan Community Studies Weekly newspaper.  This week they learned about Mackinac Island (geography), Michigan Authors, Paleo-Indians (Michigan Timeline) and the common good (government/citizenship)! They will practice this strategy many more times in Third Grade.
