On Thursday, we were privileged to have a guest speaker teach third grade students about minerals found in Earth's crust. Each student was able to dig through a pan of soil from the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas to look for quartz crystals. They learned that crystals always have a hexagonal shape--no matter what size they are. Crystals have a 6 sided base and a 6-sided top. Crystals are inorganic, not man made. Enjoy the photos from the day.
