Week of March 23-27

We will be wrapping up the end of the third marking period on Friday. My goodness, but the time is going by so fast! Report cards will be sent home on Thursday, April 2.  This week will be focusing on reading strategies for informational text and step away from the Treasures reading series. We will be using Scholastic News and various topics in Ag Mags.  The spelling words this week are plurals. Students will use three different rules for adding a suffix to the base word.  The most common thing to do as a writer is to just add a suffix to the word (cat--cats).  The other rules are adding es to words that end in ss, ch, sh, and x (box--boxes, class--classes, church--churches), and change the y to i and add es (baby--babies).

In writing, we have finished the research project and it is on its way to the printer.  The books will be back in time to share with you at Young Author's Day on April 30.  We are now learning about persuasive/opinion writing and learning how to support our opinions with reasons and examples.

We are working on fractions in math and forces and motion in science.  Below are some pics from the Science Fair which was held last Friday.  Our class did a project on potential and kinetic energy and some individual students did projects at home.
