This week we will have the spelling test for the words from What Do Illustrators Do? on Monday. Students will also receive the words from Cook-A-Doodle-Do (Unit 4, Week 1) on Monday. Those spelling words will be tested on Friday. We will begin the week with practicing for the M-STEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress). This test replaces the MEAP and will be given in May, rather than October. We began the performance tasks last Wednesday and unfortunately were not able to finish last week due to the weather days. After the performance tasks, we will read the story Cook-A-Doodle-Do and use the comprehension strategy/reading skill of compare and contrast. The spelling words follow the /Ô/ sound in words with the letters aw and au. Our grammar lessons will be on the present-tense forms of the verbs be, do, and have. In writing, students are researching an important historical person, taking notes, and writing an informational text for Young Author's Day. (April 30) These books will be published professionally and make a fantastic keepsake of third grade writing. More info will be coming home soon on how to get a FREE book or order additional copies for gift giving. They make great Mother's Day gifts!
In math, we have started Chapter 6 on division. It has been wonderful to see students carry over their knowledge of multiplication to help solve division. I love hearing "This is so fun and easy!" We will spend a couple of weeks on this chapter. Using flashcards at home for multiplication facts help with math fluency and division.
In science, we will begin Chapter 8 "Changes on Earth". The chapter will be introduced with this catchy tune/video.
