Week of January 19-23, 2015

NWEA  --  MAP
Students took all four sections (math, reading, science, and language usage) of the NWEA school-wide assessment this week  Reports will come home with your child's report card on January 30.  The report will include Fall and Winter scores and show if the growth projection was met.  We will use these scores to help with individual goal setting in the classroom.

Third Grade Post Office
The annual 3rd Grade Post Office will be open in just a few short weeks (Feb. 5-12). More details on times will follow, but here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Room 210 will need volunteers for the morning and afternoon of February 9 and 10 to help monitor and assist the sellers.
  • We welcome any donations of pretzels, fruit snacks, goldfish, and animal crackers to sell in our snack sacks.  Your donation will allow us to have a greater profit to donate to our fundraiser for Annie's BIG Nature lesson and the Voyageur Encampment. Please identify those things that are peanut free on the food label.
We wrote essays last week about dreams we have for our world as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Check out the dreams in the hallway!  I think you'll be amazed by the concern and thoughtfulness that students have for the future and our world.

We will finish up Chapter 4 on multiplication and have the chapter assessment on Wednesday. Students have learned a variety of strategies to solve for the product in word problems. It is very important for students to know these facts "off the top of their heads"!  Please take time to work with flash cards or even verbally ask your child to tell you the products for the factors that you say.  The fluency of reciting the facts helps tremendously.

We are working this week on the Geography Foldable as a culminating project in social studies.  This project is collaborative work with a learning partner and will take most of the week to complete. Since this is a short week there will be no spelling words or Weekly Assessment in the Treasures reading series.
