Even though it was colder today, students heated Woldumar up with all their learning and enthusiasm! Our lessons today focused on rocks and minerals and the early pioneers of Michigan. Ms. Lena taught a lesson on rocks, the three types of rocks, and weathering. Students even did a science experiment to demonstrate weathering. They put a rock (sugar cube) in a cup and started to shake! The shaking was to show them how rain, wind, and moving water can break down a rock into much smaller pieces. Check out the video from the science lab!
The next lesson was about pioneers coming to Michigan and how they used, adapted, and changed the environment. Students then made a pyramid foldable to show their new learning. Once we were back at school, students made butter and enjoyed this treat on a saltine cracker (just like their great-great-great-great grandparents may have done!) The Bath Township Meijer donated the jelly jars, cream, and crackers for this afternoon's activity.
An added treat today were the parent helpers. A big thank you to Mrs. Chamberlain for bringing hot cocoa for all third grade students. They really enjoyed the hot drink on this chilly day. Thank you also to Mrs. Schaibly and Mrs. Reed for their help with the foldable and making butter. Enjoy the photos from today.
