Tomorrow is our big day to go to Wharton Center to see the performance, The Diary of a Spider, a Worm, and a Fly. Thank you to families that sent in $8.00 to cover the cost of the ticket and transportation. We will leave school around 11:40 and should be back around 2:00 PM.
Ms. Hartlund's class is operating the Post Office this week. If you or your child wants to mail a letter, package, or Snack Sack, the Post Office is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Stamps and envelopes are ten cents, Snack Sacks are fifty cents, and packages are one dollar. This is a fun time to write friendly letters and let others know they are important to us! The money raised goes toward the Voyageur Encampment in May. (more details on the date to follow)
Our Valentine Party is on Friday beginning around 10:30 AM. Our class has Special at 11:25, so we'll start the party a little earlier than previously announced. The students have brainstormed a list of activities and food items. Thank you to parents that have sent in items or committed a food item for the day.
This week we are reading the selection Cook-a-Doodle-Do (Unit 4, Week 1) and
using the comprehension strategy/reading skill of compare and contrast. The spelling words follow the /Ô/ sound in
words with the letters aw and au. Our grammar lessons will be on the
present-tense forms of the verbs be, do, and have. In writing, students are researching one of the 50 states, taking notes, and writing an informational text for Young Author's Day. (May 12) These books will be published professionally and make a fantastic keepsake of third grade writing. More info will be coming home soon on how to get a FREE book or order additional copies for gift giving. They make great Mother's Day gifts!
In math, we started Chapter 6 on division. It has been wonderful to see students carry over their knowledge of multiplication to help solve division. I love hearing "This is so fun and easy!" We will spend a couple of weeks on this chapter. Using flashcards at home for multiplication facts helps with math fluency and division.
In science, we are continuing a unit on how animals adapt to winter.
