Week of December 2-6

Hopefully, everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving and are ready for the hustle and bustle of the Holiday Season.  In keeping with the holidays, the 2nd and 3rd grade students are presenting a musical called The Reindeer Whisperer.  The performance will be held on Friday, December 13 at 2:30 PM in the Middle School Auditorium.  Mr. Vetter would like students to wear a festive Christmas themed outfit to add to the atmosphere and theme of the musical.

Also in the holiday spirit, students will have an opportunity to shop at the PTA's "Stop and Shop."  Here, students have an opportunity to buy gifts for siblings, parents, grandparents, etc.  Room 210 will shop on Thursday, December 5 at 11:00.  If you want your child to have the opportunity to shop, please send in money and a list of who they are buying for on Thursday.

In reading this week, we will read the classic story, Stone Soup.  (Unit 3, Week 1) Students will practice the reading strategy of inferring.  Here students use their background knowledge and clues in the text to make their inferences.  It's kind of like reading between the lines! The author doesn't come right out and say, "Susan was sad." But, students can figure out that Susan is sad by looking at actions, words, and thoughts.  The spelling words this week have the /ar/ and /or/ sounds.  In grammar, we will learn about actions verbs.

There will be a GOMath test on Chapter 3 (multiplication) on Tuesday.  Keep practicing the math facts at home.  Students should be able to fluently recite the multiplication facts to 10 by the time they leave third grade.
