This week students will read an informational text called What's in Store for the Future? (Unit 2, Week 3) The strategy will be summarizing and students will work hard to summarize in 10 words or less. The skill we will practice this week is identifying fact and opinion. Facts are statements that can be proved to be true. Opinions show what a person or group believes, thinks, or feels about something or someone.
In spelling, students will have words with th, ph, wh, and sh. These words have two consonants that combine to make one sound, known as consonant digraphs. Words will come home on Monday and the test will be Friday. As always, words can be practiced at spellingcity.com. In grammar, students will learn about irregular plural nouns, such as foot (singular) and feet (plural). Some nouns have special plural forms. They do not add -s or es.
Last Friday, Mr. Baller, from the Bath Township Fire Department, came to our classroom to teach students about fire safety. The important take away for students is that they need to know their address, their phone number, and how many people and pets live in their home. Mr. Baller also told the students to make sure they have a family meeting place in the front yard or at a neighbor's house. All of these things will help the fire department find them and keep them safe in an emergency. If you do not have a family meeting area, now is a good time to have a family meeting and choose that spot where you will all meet if needed.
Five students from our classroom were honored on Friday for showing PRIDE in their actions at school. Keep up the good work of making excellent choices to help you learn. P - Makayla, R - Carson, I - Annabelle, D - Katelyn, and E - Juan.
There will be a math test on Wednesday, November 6, on Chapter 1 of GOMath, Adding and Subtracting Within 1,000. Report cards will be sent home on Friday.
