Week of February 11-15

I hope you all enjoyed the snow day on Friday.  It’s a great time for sledding and skiing.

This week, we will continue to operate the 3rd Grade Post Office.  We share the duties with Ms. Hartlund’s class and are raising money for the Voyageur Encampment (May 21) and Annie’s BIG Nature Lesson (April 8-12).  We will run the Post Office on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.   Our Valentine Party will be Thursday afternoon beginning at 2:30 PM.  Please be sure to have a background check complete before coming to the party.  On Friday, school is dismissed at 12:05 PM.  Our PRIDE wall is full and the reward is “Inside Out” Day.  Students can wear their clothing inside out on Friday! On Monday, February 18, there is no school for students.

This week we are reading the selection Cook-a-Doodle-Do (Unit 4, Week 1) and using the comprehension strategy/reading skill of compare and contrast.  The spelling words follow the /Ô/ sound in words with the letters aw and  au.  Our grammar lessons will be on the present-tense forms of the verbs be, do, and have.

We finished our Opinion Writing last week and student work is displayed in the hallway.  Be sure to read some of the pieces on display.  I think they did a great job of stating their opinion (recommending a favorite book) and supporting their opinion with details and facts.  Third graders can be very persuasive!

We are continuing work on division in math and learning how animals adapt for winter in science.  Hope to see you at the party on Thursday!
