Week of January 14-18

Two former students in Room 210, Carlee Payne and Kate McCrackin, are collecting rolls of toilet paper to donate to Eve’s House in Lansing.  Eve’s House is a shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse.  It is a safe place for them to go.   Carlee and Kate have been making donations to shelters for the past couple of years.  They both share the same birthday (January 10) and instead of having parties and receiving gifts these two young girls like to “pay it forward” and give back to the community.  Their goal this year is to provide enough toilet paper for the shelter for an entire year.  If you would like to help them out, please send in a couple of rolls of TP this week and I will make sure it gets to them.  Thanks in advance for helping these girls make a difference.

This week in language arts, we are reading an informational text called Saving the Sand Dunes. (Unit 3, Week 3)  Students will examine the cause and effect text feature.  Spelling words this week have the r-controlled vowel and the /ur/ sound.  In grammar, they will learn about past tense verbs.  In writing, we will think about our dreams for the world, just as Martin Luther King, Jr. had his “dream” back in 1963. DIBELS screening will be on Tuesday.

We are finishing up Chapter 5 in math and will have an assessment on Wednesday.  Since we are nearing the end of the second marking period, we will also have the Mid-Year Assessment in GOMath on Thursday

In science, we are finishing up the chapter on Earth’s Changing Surface and will have the assessment on Tuesday, January 22.

The PTA Silent Auction is the same night as the Chili Cook-off (January 31) If you would like to make a coffee themed donation please send in the items this week or next.
