This week students will read an informational text called What's in Store for the Future? The strategy will be summarizing and students will work hard to summarize in 10 words or less. The skill we will practice this week is identifying fact and opinion. Facts are statements that can be proved to be true. Opinions show what a person or group believes, thinks, or feels about something or someone.
In spelling, students will have words with th, ph, wh, and sh. These words have two consonants that combine to make one sound, known as consonant digraphs. Words will come home on Monday and the test will be Friday. As always, words can be practiced at spellingcity.com. In grammar, students will learn about irregular plural nouns, such as foot (singular) and feet (plural). Some nouns have special plural forms. They do not add -s or es.
We will do some Thanksgiving writing this week and will have a Guest Writing Teacher to demonstrate using "eetchy" for informational writing. Last week, we used "eetchy" to write about a football and an apple. This strategy helps students to provide detail and description to their writing.
In math, we are continuing with understanding multiplication by using three different strategies-- equal groups, an array, and hopping on a number line. In science, we are learning about rocks and minerals. We just started with the vocabulary words and will begin to read and learn more this week.
Report Cards will come home on Friday, November 16. Thank you for your patience. I think you'll be pleased with the new look!
