Week of October 22-26

It was great to meet with parents at Parent Teacher Conferences last week.  I feel good that so many parents are willing to help their child at home by setting aside time to do homework and provide help, if needed, and are willing to help in many ways.  We work together as a team to prepare and educate.  Thank you for helping and supporting that mission. Please contact me with questions or concerns.

This week we are reading the story called The Perfect Pet.  This is a humorous fiction story that is sure to delight!  Don't be surprised if your child wants to save a lonely bug as a pet! We will look at the literary element of Problem and Solution.  Students will identify the steps and actions taken to solve the problem.  The spelling words follow the long i spelling pattern and in Grammar, we will learn about compound sentences.  Students will have a Weekly Assessment that assesses these skills on Friday, October 26.

In math, we are working on Chapter 2 Represent and Interpret Data and in Science we are working on Chapter 5 Water.  It is my goal to finish these two chapters before the end of the first marking period, November 2. Stay tuned for updates and the final dates for assessments in these two content areas. This first marking period has gone so fast! Whew! Report cards will come home on November 9.

Party planning will happen on Tuesday, October 23, at 4:00 PM in the classroom.  We will meet briefly to discuss activities for the parties, dates, and pass out a Class Directory. The first class party is the Halloween Party on Wednesday, October 31. The parade begins at 2:00 PM, with the party to follow.  Students can begin to change clothes into their costumes at 1:15 PM.
