March 19-23

Annie’s BIG Nature Lesson will be April 9-13, 2012. A letter went home last week asking for parent volunteers. If you are able to help that week, please send back the form indicating the hours that you are available. ABNL will take place at Bengel Wildlife Center on Drumheller Road. We will leave the school each day around 9:10 AM and return around 2:30 PM. This will allow students to participate in the kick-off week of Mileage Club. Your child will need a sack lunch each day and of course, they need to dress for the weather. We go out every day for journaling, rain or shine! As parent volunteers, we will use you to lead small groups and participate along with the students.

Spring Conferences are March 28, from 5-8 PM. Letters went home on Friday for those students with academic and/or behavioral concerns. If you did not get a letter, but would like to meet, please let me know.

Popcorn Day is Thursday, March 22.

This week during the reading block we are reading a historical fiction story called Boom Town. We will use the strategy of sequencing to help with comprehension. The spelling words are compound words and grammar will focus on pronouns.

In science, we will finish the chapter on Sound. The test will be Wednesday. Please study with your child to help prepare them. They have a Summary Sheet with important information from the chapter, a vocabulary foldable, and the essay questions with acceptable answers. The time we spend in school is often times not enough practice and review to help solidify concepts. The extra practice at home helps keep the information in their muscle memory!

In math, we just finished a chapter on introducing division and will continue on Monday with a chapter on facts and strategies of division. Please practice multiplication facts with your child. A few minutes each day can really help with fact fluency.
