The egg is a symbol of new life, the coming of spring, and the promise of hope. For thousands of years it has been the custom to give eggs as gifts at spring festivals. Today, students listened to a story written by Patricia Polacco called Rechenka's Eggs. In the story, Babushka paints wonderful designs on eggs using the shapes of stars and flowers, triangles and circles. She paints all winter long and takes the eggs to an Easter Festival where she always wins first prize. Today, students made their own designs on paper plates shaped like an egg. They used oil pastels and watercolor paints to create a look called "resist". Enjoy their spring creations and the symbol of life!
