Presidents Day
This week we read "Cook-a-Doodle-Do" as a reading selection in our basal. This story is a spin-off of The Little Red Hen. Students were able to compare and contrast the characters in the story. The main character, Rooster, is the great grandson of Little Red Hen. He wanted to make strawberry shortcake and as you might expect, he didn't get any help from Cat, Dog, and Pig. Luckily, Turtle, Iguana, and Pot-Bellied Pig offered to help in some amusing ways. As we compared these characters this week, we ate strawberry shortcake, which really helped get those brains working! Be sure to ask your child about the story.
We also did some research on Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Students took notes about these famous men and then made a word cloud with descriptive words. Word clouds can be made at www.wordle.net and allow students to get creative with their words. Enjoy the video which displays their work.
