During math today, third graders scooped out and counted pumpkin seeds. Each table group received a pumpkin to clean and count seeds into groups of ten. First, students were handed Dixie cups to hold groups of ten. Once they had filled 10 cups they transferred the tens to one clear cup for 100's. Students had to work together as a class to find enough 100's to combine to fill a red party cup with 10 groups of 100's for the 1000's. It was a very busy, loud, exciting adventure in the world of counting! When students combined all their seeds they found they had 2,337 seeds. Thank you to families that donated pumpkins for our discovery of "pumpkins and place value"!
