Making an Electromagnet

Fourth graders were scientists again today as they wound a coated electric wire around a bolt to make an electromagnet. They made predictions and wrote an operational definition for the electromagnet. They discovered that the more coils they wrapped around the bolt, the more paperclips they could pick up. They also discovered that when the wire was removed, paperclips could not be picked up. Enjoy the photos of discovery and wonder.
