Voyageur Encampment

Oh, no! I forgot my camera on a perfect "Kodak moment" day. The Voyageur Encampment started out as a cold and wet April day. Despite the dreary weather, 4th graders were taken back in time as they listened to stories of the past from Bear Teeth, Bear Woman, and two French voyageurs. Michigan history from the early 1700s came alive as students saw artifacts and heard tales from the past.

Many thanks to the parents that braved the cold to help chaperone groups of students and to those who helped behind the scenes by preparing stew or donating food. Many students came back for second helpings on the stew. It was a perfect meal on a cold day and warmed the bones. Parent helpers today were: Laura Blanchard, Teresa Gutzki, Linda Monroe (Olivia Hoover's neighbor), Tammy Hosford, Colleen Opphile, and Denise Wahrer. Thank you--without your help the day would not have been as enjoyable or successful for the students.
